SOURCE: Browns Did Not Contact Eagles

Let the he said, he said begin. Less than an hour after Pro Football Talk reported the Browns called the Philadelphia Eagles about the availability of QB Kevin Kolb, the Cleveland Plain Dealer is saying the call never happened.

So, who is telling the truth?

To me it just makes too much sense – and there is too much history between the Eagles and Browns front office staff – for a conversation not to have taken place. Maybe it was the Eagles the called the Browns. Maybe the reason for the call wasn’t Kevin Kolb but his name came up. Who knows in the land of ‘coachspeak’.

What is certain is the Eagles seem to have fallen out of love with Kevin Kolb after 15 pass attempts in one half of football.

REPORT: Browns Called Eagles About Kevin Kolb

No sooner had Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid named Michael Vick the starter of the Eagles did the Browns pick up the phone and reportedly contact the Eagles about Kevin Kolb's availability.  This according to ProFootballTalk.

There is a connection between the two teams, of course, with Browns G.M Tom Heckert coming over from Philly and Andy Reid spending time with Mike Holmgren when both were in Green Bay.  According to the report, the Eagles said Kolb wasn't available, but time will tell if that could change.

Current Browns starting QB Jake Delhomme missed practice again today and his status for this Sunday's game against the Ravens is in doubt.  Delhomme missed Sunday's loss to Kansas City with an ankle injury.

The Browns had interest in Kolb during the offseason before Reid and the Eagles traded long-time starter Donovan McNabb to the Redskins.  At the time Reid named Kolb his starting quarterback, with Michael Vick as the backup.  Kolb lasted just 15 passes before suffering a concussion against the Packers during a Week 1 loss.  Reid had said all along that Kolb would regain his starting job when he returned, but had a change of heart yesterday naming vick his starting quarterback moving forward.

With Vick set to become a free agent after the season, and $12 million invested in Kolb, the Eagles will have a decision to make and the Browns seem ready to pounce on Kolb should he become available.
