The Kent State Golden Flashes scored a nice upset over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Tuesday, making a second-half comeback to eventually take the 70-60 win. Senior guard Carlton Guyton scored 17 points and had a rebound, and four other players were in double figures in the win over West Virginia. He was followed closely by West Virginia forward Kevin Jones, who had 15 points, but also 18 rebounds on the day. The rebounding in particular was impressive for West Virginia, but the team ended up with a loss either way.
But that wasn't the most impressive thing on the day. No, that came when Kent State's Chris Evans caught an alley oop over the head of West Virginia Freshman Gary Browne. The oop came from just about half court and was virtually uncontested by Browne, who didn't get any lift and hardly registered on the 6'7'' Evans' radar. Below, we've got a video, thanks to Ballin' Is A Habit.

The debut game for first-year head coach Rob Senderoff couldn't have gone better for Kent State. Live on ESPN Tuesday morning, they kicked their season off with a 70-60 upset over West Virginia. Kent State trailed 33-28 after the first half, but rallied back to outscore West Virginia 42-27 in the second, led by senior guard Carlton Guyton, who scored 17 points with a rebound, steal and four assists. He led a group that included four players in double figures. Forward Kevin Jones followed close behind Guyton for West Virginia, with 15 points and a whopping 18 rebounds.
It was a close game throughout, with Kent State first taking the lead in the second half just a few minutes into it, with a Patrick Jackson layup. The Golden Flashses would go on to control the play from there, grabbing their first 10-point lead with around ten minutes left following a Randal Holt three pointer. They'd hold onto the lead from there, though The Mountaineers got within six after a Deniz Kikicki slam dunk.
West Virginia concentrated a lot on getting rebounds, grabbing 27-of-39 rebounds in the first half, but it wasn't enough to put them past Kent State. 23 team fouls called in the first half of play, and despite the strong rebounding, the Mountaineers coughed up the ball a lot, giving Kent State plenty of chances to take the lead.

The Kent State Golden Flashes may have had an unusual start to the 2011-12 college basketball season, but they are making the most of a 10 a.m. tipoff in Morgantown, WV by pushing the Mountaineers early as part of ESPN's college basketball marathon. Kent State only trails West Virginia 33-28 at the half, and they are receiving a balanced scoring effort from all corners.
So far five different Kent State players have cracked the scoring column, but the Flashes are only shooting 35.7% from the field. Carlton Guyton leads the Flashes with 11 points and Justin Greene has six points.
West Virginia has been dominant on the glass, and Kent State will have to get a better effort on the glass if it is going to pull the road upset. West Virginia has a 23-9 rebounding edge at the break, with Kevin Jones leading the way at seven points and 10 rebounds.
