2011 Bowl Projections: Ohio State Buckeyes Looking At Meineke Car Care Bowl

The Ohio State Buckeyes are not in the hunt for any sort of BCS bowl games with their record and need some help if they are going to be in the hunt for the Big Ten championship game, but SB Nation's 2011 bowl projections still seem to be going in favor of Luke Fickell's team. Not so much that they are in the running for a notable bowl game, really, but at least it looks like they could have a game on New Year's Eve.

The mothership's Bill Connelly has been doing a weekly projection of the bowl games and, after Saturday's victory over the Indiana Hoosiers, it seems the Buckeyes have picked up a better draw in the bowl games. It might be a difficult road trip, but Connelly currently has the Buckeyes playing the Texas Longhorns in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.

The 2011 Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas will feature teams from the Big 12 and Big Ten conferences and will kick off at 11:00 a.m. CST on Saturday, Dec. 31 on ESPN. The bowl holds the fifth choice among non-BCS bowls in each conference.

2011 Bowl Projections: SB Nation Projects Ohio State In TicketCity Bowl

According to SB Nation's bowl projections this week the blog-writers are still not impressed with the Buckeyes even after their dramatic win over Wisconsin on Saturday. SB Nation's Bowl projections have Ohio State headed to Texas to play in the TicketCity bowl on January 2nd. The TicketCity Bowl is slated to get the Big Ten's 7th choice of its eight bowl tie-ins:

Jan. 2  TicketCity Bowl Ohio State (7-5) SMU (8-4)

The projection has OSU facing the SMU Mustangs, which is a slightly ironic choice considering the nature of Ohio State's last offseason. SMU is the only program to ever be handed the NCAA's death penalty in football for multiple violations.

The projection also has Ohio State finishing 7-5, thus earning a split in their final four games of the season against Indiana, Purdue, Penn State, and Michigan. Three of those four teams are currently projected as bowl teams, with only this week's opponent in Indiana sitting out. The Hoosiers are already 1-8 on the year.
