BCS Bowl Games: LSU, Alabama Will Meet Again For BCS Championship

The final BCS Standings are out, and the SEC will win its sixth straight BCS championship regardless of what happens. Alabama was able to hold off a charge from Oklahoma State for the No. 2 spot to earn a rematch with LSU for the National Championship. The Crimson Tide's only loss was a 9-6 overtime loss to No. 1 LSU, but that was viewed as a better loss than Oklahoma State or Stanford, who will finish at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively:

The Alabama Crimson Tide were considered the heavy favorites to face the LSU Tigers in the BCS National Championship Game heading into this past weekend, before the Cowboys gave pollsters plenty to think about. Ultimately it wasn't enough, however, with the top three teams in the final BCS rankings of the regular season looking exactly the same from the week before: No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Oklahoma State.

As for the remaining BCS games, the Rose Bowl will feature Oregon vs. Wisconsin after each team won its conference championship game this past weekend. Montee Ball will have a chance to break Barry Sanders' single-season NCAA touchdowns mark. he is currently one score back with 38 touchdowns this season.

The Fiesta Bowl will look like an excellent semi-final in a plus one scenario, as No. 3 Oklahoma State will play Andrew Luck and No. 4 Stanford. The Sugar bowl will see the Michigan Wolverines take on Virginia Tech, as the Hokies earned a surprising at large bid after losing the ACC championship game to Clemson. Finally, the Orange Bowl will see ACC champion Clemson will face Big East champion West Virginia.

Ohio State Will Go to Bowl Game as Long as NCAA Allows

The NCAA could still prevent Ohio State from going to a bowl game this year after their issues this past offseason, but as long as they are allowed, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith says that the team will go to a bowl if they are invited.

Right now, the Buckeyes are being projected to Bowls like the Gator Bowl and really lesser-known bowl games like that, but that doesn’t matter for this young team which is hungry to compete.

To this point, the NCAA hasn’t really punished the team as a whole for the actions of individual players and former Head Coach Jim Tressel allowing essentially ineligible players to help the Buckeyes to BCS bowl games.

BCS Rankings Week 13: Michigan Becomes Target For Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes are not in this week's BCS rankings after two straight losses, but they can still have a major effect going into their final game of the season. Their archrival, the Michigan Wolverines, have reached the doorstep of an at-large bid to a BCS bowl, likely the Sugar Bowl, by coming in 15th in this week's BCS Rankings:

1 LSU

2 Alabama

3 Arkansas

4 Oklahoma State

5 Virginia Tech

6 Stanford

7 Boise State

8 Houston

9 Oklahoma

10 Oregon

11 Kansas State

12 South Carolina

13 Geogia

14 Michigan State

15 Michigan

16 Wisconsin

17 Clemson

18 Baylor

19 Penn State

20 TCU

21 Nebraska

22 Notre Dame

23 Georgia Tech

24 Auburn

25 Texas

Michigan needs to finish in the top 14 of the final BCS standings in two weeks in order to be eligible for selection to a BCS bowl. The Wolverines host the Buckeyes on Saturday, and they have lost seven straight games to Ohio State, making a possible victory over Ohio State doubly sweet because it would make for a bigger bowl payday.
