The Ohio Bobcats marched into the Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia and became the first team to claim victory against the Marshall Thundering Herd this season in a 70-68 win on Wednesday evening.
A late-game push by Marshall, now 6-1, made for tense times down stretch, but DeAndre Kane missed a final shot as time expired and Ohio managed to lead from start to finish.
Junior forward Reggie Keeley came off the bench to lead Ohio with 16 points on 8-11 shooting along with 5 rebounds. Junior forward Walter Offutt chipped in with 13 points of his own while junior point guard D.J. Cooper added 11 points, 11 assists and 4 steals while. It was an up-and-down night for Cooper, who made 3-4 free throws in the final two minutes but also turned the ball over twice and missed his only jumper in that span.
The Thundering Herd had their chances but could not convert: They attempted 38 free throws on the night but made just 21, bad enough for a 55.3 %, all while Ohio made just 7-11 from the stripe.
The Bobcats rebounded after their first and only loss of the season -- a close 59-54 decision at the No. 7 Louisville Cardinals on Friday.
Ohio, now 4-1, returns to action next when they host the 0-6 Morgan State Bears on Saturday.
