Coming off of a brutal 1-11 season the Akron Zips were in search of a new head coach. They have found one now in former Auburn coach and TV analyst Terry Bowden. Bowden met with administrators on Wednesday and was offered the position. he is currently coaching at North Alabama, but is the son of coaching legend Bobby Bowden:
It's now looking more likely that the Akron Zips will hire former Auburn Tigers coach Terry Bowden to take over their program, believe it or not. Credit FootballScoop.com with having the first link on Twitter, while the Canton Repository's Todd Porter reports that "key administrators from the university met with Bowden Wednesday near Cleveland Hopkins Airport and later offered him the job."
Bowden has a career 139–63–2 career coaching record, going 47–17–1 at Auburn and 29–10 at Division II North Alabama. His North Alabama teams have reached the Division II playoffs in each of the past three seasons, winning a game each time.
