Senior guard Jeremy Montgomery set a season-high for Cleveland St. with 21 points on 7-10 shooting from the field and 6-8 on three-pointers to give the usually offensively-challenged Vikings a shot in the arm. Montgomery added 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Meanwhile, leading scorer D'Aundray Brown also came through with 20 points.
However, the Vikings' typically stout defense allowed the Penguins to shoot 58.1 % from the field and 50.0 % on three-pointers.
With the loss, Cleveland St. falls to 12-3 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon League, while Youngstown St. moves to 7-6 overall and 1-2 in the Horizon League.
The Vikings next travel to Illinois where they will face a couple of Horizon League opponents as they take on the 5-8 Illinois-Chicago Flames on Jan. 5 and then face off against the 5-8 Loyola Ramblers on Jan. 7.
