The NHL-worst Columbus Blue Jackets (29 points) started the second half of their season on Friday night against the late-arriving Phoenix Coyotes, who lost Thursday night in a shootout against the Detroit Red Wings. The Blue Jackets took advantage of the tired Coyotes, took a two-goal lead into the third and held on in the end, 4-3.
Derick Brassard had a goal and an assist to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets. Derek Dorsett had an assist and was plus-2. Curtis Sanford had 32 saves in net.
The win gave interim head coach Todd Richards a win in his home debut.
The Blue Jackets are back on the ice again tomorrow night in front of their home crowd against the Sharks. It will be the second of four straight at home for Columbus.
