Blue Jackets Vs. Sharks: Struggling San Jose Pays A Visit To Columbus

The Blue Jackets and Sharks each tote losing streaks into Tuesday's game in Columbus.

The Blue Jackets will try to avenge one of their worst games of the season Tuesday as they host the Sharks.

San Jose blasted Columbus 6-0 the last time these two teams played out in San Jose on Jan. 31. A 9-2 loss at Philadelphia is the only candidate for a worse showing this season by the Blue Jackets.

The Jackets won three of four games in the middle of the month but have fallen back into the rut they’ve been in nearly all season. Columbus has dropped three of four, including a 6-1 home loss to Chicago on Saturday. Last time out the Blue Jackets nearly downed the East-leading Rangers, but they fell in overtime.

The Sharks are having problems of their own: They’ve lost three in a row and six of eight. But that’s not to say they’re a pushover.

San Jose is in the top 10 in the league in both goals and goals allowed, a combination that has helped fuel the Sharks’ 31-19-7 record and division-leading 69 points. Because they lead their division, the Sharks are third place in the Western Conference standings, although they have only the sixth-most points.

Joe Thornton leads San Jose with 52 points. His 40 assists are good for sixth in the NHL. Logan Couture is San Jose’s top scorer, with 25 goals on the season.

There were multiple fights in that 6-0 game last month, so don't be shocked if the gloves get dropped a few times tonight.
