2012 Masters, Results And Recap: Bubba Watson Takes Green Jacket, Jason Dufner Ties For 24th

The 2012 Masters ended in exciting fashion on Sunday when Bubba Watson took a brilliant swing to set up a two-putt par on the last hole of the game while in a playoff with Louis Oosthuizen. After his great shot to get onto the green, his final shot was from less than a foot from the hole to earn himself the Green Jacket. It was the powerful driver's first Major win since he went pro in 2003.

Both Oosthuizen and Watson ended the tournament at -10 with 278 strokes.

Despite the thrilling ending that was provided by Watson, the biggest story of the tournament was undoubtedly the meltdown by Tiger Woods that dominated the early stories of the tourney. After a win at his last PGA Tour appearance, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but failed to do much of anything to provide hope for his fans after some terrible holes at the start which left him faltering in a tie for 40th place in the tournament with a +5 score.

Tiger had originally been a heavy favorite to win the Masters since winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Phil Mickelson also had a sub-par day despite what the numbers might show -- he finished tied for third with a -8 score -- but was destroyed by a completely self-inflicted triple bogey.

Cleveland native Jason Dufner finished the tournament tied for 24th place with Anders Hansen and Paul Lawrie with 289 strokes. Not the best finish after a strong start to the tourney but at least he can brag to all of his friends that he beat Tiger Woods soundly. That might not be as much of a feat as it used to be, though.

Masters 2012 Purse: Bubba Watson Earns $1.44 Million In Victory

Bubba Watson's victory may have gotten him a lifetime invitation to the Masters in addition to invite to the PGA Championship, British Open, and U.S. Open for the next five years, but his fantastic shot on the second hole of the playoff round earned him a cool $1,440,000. That is a nice chunk of change for a weekend of golf even if he did have to work just a little bit of overtime to get it.

Watson's earning for the weekend totaled $576,000 more than Louis Oosthuizen made, with the rest of the top ten breaking down as follows:

1st: Bubba Watson, $1,440,000
2nd, Louis Oosthuizen $864,000
T-3rd, Lee Westwood, $284,000
T-3rd, Matt Kuchar, $284,000
T-3rd, Peter Hanson, $284,000
T-3rd, Phil Mickelson, $284,000
7th, Ian Poulter, $268,0000
T-8, Adam Scott, $244,000
T-8, Padraig Harrington, $244,000
T-8, Justin Rose, $244,000

In addition to his earnings, Oosthuizen earned a crystal bowl for his double-eagle hole-in-one during the final round.

2012 Masters Results: Bubba Watson Wins Green Jacket On Playoff Hole

Long-drive king Bubba Watson two-putted for par to beat Louis Oosthuizen in a playoff for the 2012 Masters championship on Sunday, adding his name to the record book as the next player to don a legendary green jacket.

Watson shot a final round 68 (4-under par) to tie Oosthuizen down the stretch and force a playoff. His drive on what proved to be the final hole went wayward into the woods, and it appeared he would be hard pressed to stay alive. But instead of hitting a safe, layup shot from behind trees to try to make par, Watson went for the green and hit a masterful shot to reach the green in two, while Oosthuizen failed to reach the green in regulation.

With this victory, Watson becomes the fifth lefty to win the Masters in the last ten tournaments. Watson is expected to take home an estimated $1.44 million for his handiwork over the weekend, with Oosthuizen clearing $864 thousand.

Masters 2012 Tee Times And Pairings: Jason Dufner Remains With Fred Couples, Tees Off At 1:20pm

Cleveland native Jason Dufner's Saturday results from the 2012 Masters were a disappointing follow up to his Friday results, as his third day of play in the 2012 Masters with his six birdie performance from Friday damaged by a five bogie round. All of the positions in the top ten are separated by a single stroke, so the action on day four is likely to be tightly contested all the way through. As before, Masters.com will feature live streaming of featured groups. Notable pairings for Sunday:

1:20 p.m. Fred Couples, Jason Dufner

2:00 p.m. Paul Lawrie, Lee Westwood

The Masters 2012: Jason Dufner Seven Strokes Off Pace Heading Into Sunday

The 2012 Masters field is wide open, and Cleveland native Jason Dufner, who was tied for the lead after two days, remains in the hunt. Dufner shot a 3-over 75 on Saturday and tumbled a bit down the leaderboard, but can still make up ground with a strong showing on the final day of the legendary tournament.

Swedish born Peter Hanson shot a 65 on Saturday to grab sole control of the lead at 9-under, while heavy favorite Phil Mickelson's third-round 66 has him only one shot off the pace. Names like Bubba Watson, Lee Westwood and Padraig Harrington also populate the talent-rich leaderboard after three days, as a handful of proven veterans remain within striking distance.

Dufner, who will tee off at 1:20 pm ET on Sunday, will be partnered the same man he shared the 36-hole lead with: fan favorite Fred Couples. Couples regressed by a whopping eight strokes after bursting out of the gate with a 67 on Friday, and will also be looking to rebound after a frustrating Saturday afternoon.

Masters 2012 Projected Cut: 63 Players Set To Make Cut at 5-Over

The projected cut at The Masters has held steady throughout the afternoon and into the evening at 5-over, 10 strokes back of the leaders-- Jason Dufner and Fred Couples-- at -5-under. Via Brett Avery on Twitter:

Luke Donald apparently dodged the cut with a few back nine birdies to get to 4-over for the tournament, while amateurs Patrick Cantlay and Kelly Kraft will most likely advance to the weekend at 5-over, along with Trevor Immelman.

John Senden and Kyung-tae Kim were on the cut line at 6-over. Green Jacket Owners Mike Weir and Jose Maria Olazabal did not survive the cut.

Jason Day withdrew from the tournament with a left foot injury.

Masters 2012: Jason Dufner With Clubhouse Lead At 5-Under Par

For one moment late in his second nine, Jason Dufner solely led The Masters at six-under par. Dufner had a solid second round, and capitalized on the birdie chance at the par-five 13th on the second nine at Augusta National Golf Club. He then followed that up with a nice streak, including a birdie on the par-four uphill 14th hole, and a birdie on the famous par-three 16th hole over water. He dropped a shot on the tough par-four 18th hole but he's currently the clubhouse leader with a two-round score of five-under.

Veteran and Senior Tour player Fred Couples is currently tied with Dufner at five-under but he's in trouble on the final hole. Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy are also making a charge and are tied at five-under. Tiger Woods is still on the first nine and is one-under for the day. Conditions are very windy right now for the afternoon groups, although it is ten degrees warmer than the chilly conditions this morning. At one point, Dufner had a winter hat on during his round but the Cleveland native is in prime position heading into the weekend.

Masters 2012 Leaderboard Update: Jason Dufner Enters Amen Corner At 3-Under

Cleveland native Jason Dufner is halfway through his second round at The Masters and he's still right there on the first page of the leaderboard. Dufner had an up-and-down first nine, with three birdies and one double bogey. Dufner birdied the second and third hole, which are prime opportunities to climb up the leaderboard and are must birdies in order to put together a contending round. But he gave it right back on the long par-3 fourth hole, with a double bogey. He got one back on the next par-3, the shorter sixth hole where the players tee off from a high perch and hit over the patrons sitting on the side of the hill below. Dufner put it close and drilled his put to move to 4-under.

Dufner moved back to three-under with a bogey on the ninth hole. He's heading into Amen Corner now where you can watch the action live on Masters.com. The noted scribe Herbert Warren Wind named it Amen Corner in Sports Illustrated, because of the hit-and-pray nature of the approach shots at No. 11, 12, and 13 with Rae's Creek ever-present. He now enters the portion of the course where you can make-or-break a round, with huge birdie opportunities at the par-five 13th and 15th holes.

You can view the live Masters leaderboard here.

Masters Golf Tournament: Jason Dufner Near Top Of The LeaderBoard

The 2012 Masters is underway and some familiar names pepper the leaderboard at Augusta National. Louis Oosthuizen and Lee Westwood share the lead at -4, though Oosthuizen has finished his round and Westwood has four holes remaining to play.

Oosthuizen had never scored better than 73 at Augusta National before posting a 68 on Thursday. Oosthuizen won the 2010 British Open, while Westwood was the runner up. Westwood has consistently been one of the best golfers in the world the past decade, but he has never won a major.

Jason Dufner, a Columbus, Ohio native, is -3 after tapping in for birdie on the par-5 15th hole. Jason Day, who lives in Columbus, Ohio, shot a 76, leaving him at +4 after the opening day of play.

Tiger Woods bogied both the 17th and 18th hole to finish his round at even par. Patrick Cantlay is the low amateur so far at -2 through 17 holes.

2012 Masters Odds: Tiger Woods Leads With 4/1 Odds, Jason Dufner At 125/1

The odds for who will win the Masters have been updated by Bovada and to absolutely nobody's surprise, Tiger Woods is the leader of the pack. Tiger's 4/1 odds lead the group by a long shot with Rory McIlroy's 11/2 and Phil Mickelson's 11/1 odds being the only ones that are even close to Tiger.

Cleveland native Jason Dufner is being considered a long shot for the tournament with 125/1 odds, but that's actually not too bad considering there are guys as far as 5000/1 long shots. If you're looking to try and bet on the underdog, both Ben Crenshaw and Craig Stadler have the 5000/1 odds on them.

Woods, McIlroy and Mickelson are the three leaders in the betting for simply finishing in the top five. Dufner has 22/1 top five odds.
