Kent State Football 2012: Dri Archer And David Fisher Shine As Gold Shuts Out Blue In Annual Spring Game

Kent State's annual Blue and Gold Game took place Saturday, with the Gold team routing the Blue 21-0 in the win. The game was highly encouraging for the Flashes, as a pair of playmakers emerged in running back Dri Archer and quarterback David Fisher.

Archer finished with 107 all-purpose yards, and had the highlight of the day with a 66-yard touchdown run through two defenders during the third quarter. The speedy running back has reportedly been clocked at a sub-4.4 40 time. After the game, head coach and former Ohio State assistant Darrell Hazell compared Archer to former Buckeye Ted Ginn Jr.

"(Archer) reminded me of Teddy when he hit that one corner," Hazell said. "There's a narrow seam and he hits it, then there's no more angles for the defense."

Fisher took a big step toward possibly unseating incumbent starting quarterback Spencer Keith on Satuday. He went 7-for-11 passing on the day for 103 yards and two touchdowns, looking sharp in limited snaps. Keith still got a lion's share of touches, though his 10-for-26 performance with two interceptions could not have inspired much confidence in the coach staff. After the game, Hazell said the two quarterbacks were even heading into the summer.
