Kyrie Irving will start Wednesday night for the Cleveland Cavaliers (21-43) in their final home game of the season, despite missing the morning shoot around due to gastroenteritis, according to Jason Lloyd of The Akron Beacon Journal.
Cavaliers coach Byron Scott did not expect Irving to play, but said he wanted to play for the fans. The Cavaliers will take on the streaking Washington Wizards (18-46), who are winners of four consecutive games.
Irving is the runaway leader for Rookie of the Year, playing 50 games and averaging 18.8 points, 5.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. The Cavaliers will conclude their season on Thursday in Chicago against the Bulls.
