The Cleveland Indians nearly wasted a strong pitching performance from Justin Masterson, but shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera came up with a single in the bottom of the ninth to score Aaron Cunningham with the game-winning run as the Indians beat the Los Angeles Angels, 3-2.
Masterson put up a masterful outing, pitching into the ninth inning and allowing just two runs on four hits, as the Cleveland offense struggled to give Masterson much run support. Finally in the bottom of the seventh inning, center fielder Michael Brantley broke through with a run-scoring double and then scored himself one batter later when second baseman Jason Kipnis singled him home.
With the game tied in the ninth inning, Vinnie Pestano relieved Masterson to strike out Vernon Wells and Erick Aybar which shut down a threat by the Angles to keep the game tied going into the bottom of the ninth. Pestano picked up the win thanks to Cabrera's game-winner.
