Kyrie Irving Expected To Officially Be Named NBA Rookie Of The Year In 'Major Announcement'

Stay connected for news and updates

Late Monday afternoon, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they were going to make a "major announcement" on Tuesday morning at the team's practice facility at Cleveland Clinic Courts. Of course, it is assumed that the team is planning to announce that standout star Kyrie Irving will officially be named as the NBA's Rookie of the Year.

The announcement is currently scheduled for 10 am and there is yet to be confirmation as to whether ESPN will be providing an hour long special.

Irving is the second Cavalier to come away with the honor, joining LeBron James as the only other member of the franchise to be named as the league's top rookie (James won the award in the 2003-04 season). Irving averaged 18.5 points and 30 minutes per game this season, shooting 46.9 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from three-point range.
