The 35th running of the Cleveland Marathon will be held on Sunday, May 20.
On Sunday, May 20 the Rite Aide Cleveland Marathon will be run for the 35th time. Established in 1978, the Marathon has become a staple of the community and has expanded far beyond the full marathon into a weekend full of events including full, half and 10K marathons. The full and half marathons will both begin at 7 am, followed by the 10K, which begins at 7:15 am as well as a 26.3 mile finish line 'rock party' which begins at 8:30 am. The finish line rock party includes live entertainment, food and a beer garden.
There will be a total of $22,800 in prize money awarded with the male and female winners of the full marathon receiving $3,000 and the winners of the half marathon receiving $2,000. Marathon winners can earn a bonus of $3,000 for males who break the 2:20-mark and women who crack the 2:40-mark.
The course record for males was set in 2000 by Pavel Kokin when he ran the course in 2:10:29 and the women's record was set in 2002 by Tatiana Pozdniakova when she ran the course in 2:30:15.
In addition to the events on Sunday, there will be a 5K-run and a child's run held on Saturday.
