Joe Smith Involved In Bar Fight, Responds By Saying Reports Are 'Very Inaccurate'

Stay connected for news and updates

Indians reliever and submarine specialist Joe Smith was reportedly involved in a scuffle at a bar in Put-in-Bay early Sunday morning. Vince Grzegorek reports that Smith was asked for ID as he tried to enter a bar and promptly responded by saying he was a member of the Cleveland Indians. He did not present ID and the security staff at the bar did not accept his explanation, and there was some resultant "lunging" and cursing.

No charges were apparently filed on either side of the dust-up, but one revelation in the police report is that Smith may be dating Fox 8 sports reporter Allie LaForce. Grzegorek reports that LaForce is identified as Smith's girlfriend in the police report and that other members of her family were present. Smith addressed the issue before the Tribe's series opener against the Tigers, stating that the reports are "very inaccurate" and when asked about LaForce, he said it was personal and would not address it.
