2012 Big Ten Baseball Tournament, Ohio State Vs. Purdue Final Score: Buckeyes Can't Hold Off Ranked Boilermakers

Stay connected for news and updates

Ohio State received 'new life' in the 2012 Big Ten baseball tournament, barely getting into the bracket as the No. 6 seed. On Day 1, a late rally helped them beat Nebraska, 12-5. On Thursday, a late rally fell short against the Purdue Boilermakers and they were defeated, 5-4.

Ohio State took a 3-2 lead in the sixth behind rib-eyes from Mike Carroll and Josh Dezse. But the Boilermakers responded in the seventh inning with a two-run homer off the bat of Kevin Plawecki. Plawecki had two hits in the game and three runs batted in.

Purdue added an insurance run in the eighth, which proved to be huge because Ohio State scored a run in the ninth. However, Nick Wittgren was able to slam the door and help Purdue advance to play Indiana on Friday night.

Ohio State is now set up for a rematch with Nebraska on Friday at 12:05 p.m. ET.
