The Cleveland Indians made a roster move on Friday afternoon in advance of their series against the Chicago White Sox. The Tribe recalled infielder Juan Diaz from Akron and optioned Zach McAllister back to AAA Columbus. As Jordan Bastian first tweeted, it's a move that signals the imminent return of Josh Tomlin:
Recalling Diaz gives Indians extra INF (backup SS) with Hannahan (back) still ailing. Only need extra hand until Tomlin's Monday activation.

McAllister made an emergency start for Tomlin in Boston two weeks ago, and performed admirably in three starts. Tomlin went to the DL with a rare wrist injury but he's been rehabbing for a week now and making solid progress with no setbacks. As Bastian noted, Diaz provides infield depth while Jack Hannahan, who's been available off the bench, still recovers from an uncooperative back injury.
