Cleveland Indians starting catcher Carlos Santana was removed from Friday night's loss after a foul tip hit him in the mask. After the game, Tribe manager Manny Acta said that Santana could have continued to play if the game wasn't already out of hand and was replaced merely for precautionary reasons.
Beat writer Jordan Bastian is assuming Santana is headed to the DL:
C Carlos Santana not on Indians lineup sheet. Could be 7-day concussion DL or 15-day DL. No official word yet from Indians.— Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) May 26, 2012
This is obviously not good news for the Indians, who are currently up on the White Sox 2.5 games in the Central. Santana is not hitting as well as he did in his first two seasons, but he has five homers and his 24 RBI is tops on the team.
