On Thursday, the 2012 Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance will begin play at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, which was designed by it's founder, golfing great Jack Nicklaus in 1976. In addition to crowning a champion every year, the Memorial Tournament also honors an individual who has made significant contributions to golf. This year's honoree will be Tom Watson.
In terms of tournament play, Tiger Woods will be competing in this year's event and will undoubtedly be looking to turn around his recent run of inconsistent play at a course that he has had past success with. Woods holds the record for most wins at the Memorial Tournament with four, is the only player to successfully defend the title in consecutive years and even won the event in three successive years from 1999-2000, with his most recent win coming in 2009.
Word No. 1 ranked golfer Luke Donald will be competing in the tournament, as will the surging Rickie Fowler. Other notables in the tournament include Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson.
