U.S. Open Leaderboard 2012: Tiger Woods In Complete Control Of His Game

Forget the dramatic Sunday charge to win the Memorial two weeks ago. Through 14 holes, this is the best round of golf Tiger Woods has played all season -- and perhaps in two years. That Sunday magic was a harbinger of things to come, a win replete with solid play and saved pars before the dramatics of Sunday afternoon. He's taken that steady form at Muirfield up a notch in his first round at Olympic and is in complete control of his game. Woods had a couple issues misjudging distance in the heavy and early cold air at the start of his round, but he's shaping all the shots he wants at the exact trajectory he wants.

During his press conference on Tuesday, Woods indicated that the players who can play the first six holes at the Lake Course in even-par would pick up "boatloads" of shots on the field. He made the turn onto the treacherous front side and is 1-under through the first four. It could have been 2-under, but Woods jabbed a short putt on No. 2 after hitting a perfect cut on his approach right over the bunker that protects the right side of the green. He missed his short birdie putt on the low side, squandering an opportunity to move into red numbers.

But it didn't take long for him to move into the red, capitalizing on another fantastic approach shot. Woods hit a low draw into the elevated green at No. 4 and stuck it within 12 feet. He drained the downhill-sidehill putt to move to 1-under, two shots back of leader Jason Bohn.
