U.S. Open 2012: Tiger Woods Finishes First Round Near Top Of The Leaderboard

After a round of one-under-par, Tiger Woods went into the clubhouse three shots behind leader Michael Thompson in the first round of the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

Starting at the ninth tee, it didn't appear as though Woods' first round would be worth noting as a bogey on the 14th had him at +1 after six holes. But a birdie on the 17th hole had him at even-par by the time he hit the front-nine.

That is when Woods began his charge, making birdie at the fourth and fifth hole to give him a score of -2 as he prepared for the final three holes.

A bad bogey on the sixth hole dropped him one stroke to his eventual final score of -1.

Woods, who has finished in the top-six at the U.S. Open the last four times he has played it, is in contention yet again.
