If you haven't heard by now, the Kent State Golden Flashes opened regionals at the NCAA Baseball Tournament in Gary with a ho-hum 21-inning 7-6 victory over Kentucky. It was a marathon afternoon that went deep into the night, lasting almost seven full hours. There were an amazing amount of records set, and the game included one UK player who played nine innings as a DH, two innings at first base, and then threw the equivalent of complete game on the mound.
One great thing about these marathon sporting events is watching those responsible for media coverage cope with the interminable contest. The liveblogger who went off the rails during the Wimbledon match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut is perhaps the best example. With no TV at the game in Gary on Friday, many turned to the broadcast provided by KentStateSports.com as the game went deeper into the night and attracted more attention. Well, the crew calling the game provided as much entertainment as the play on the field, and thanks to the heroic work of a few tweeters, namely Zac Jackon of Fox Sports Ohio, I've culled some of the highlights of last night's broadcast as we all slowly lost our minds:
Now the announcer who disappeared for 4+ innings is taking shots at Ohio State football. Most bizarre thing ever.

The announcers on 4 straight minutes of Twitter talk...without actually sharing their names or Twitter handles

Audible cracking open of a Coke can. This Kent State radio feed is amazing.

@HustleBelt *Sound of can opening* ... "That was a Coke, by the way."

Radio analyst bragging about adding Twitter followers. He's still yet to give his name or Twitter handle.

"You don't wanna play 6.5 hours for nothing so you might as well win the ballgame." Again, ver-freaking-batim.

"Come on, Mike...can I be exempt from the cheering on the air thing?"
