The USGA created an alternate sectional qualifying site at Springfield Country Club to accommodate the high demand at the nearby Columbus sectional, which is crowded with Tour pros coming off a week at the Memorial. The Donald Ross course serves as a picturesque alternate setting. Two players qualified for Olympic in less than two weeks, with Brice Garrett and John Peterson making it into the field.

Peterson, the NCAA medalist and champion last year at LSU, was left out in the cold last year by the USGA when he was surprisingly kept off the U.S. Walker Cup team. He had an amazing 24-hour stretch, which included a Sunday qualifying round in Memphis for this week's St. Jude Classic. He then turned around and traveled to the Columbus area and lit up in the morning session of qualifying at Springfield with a 64, the low round of the morning session at all sites.

The Columbus District always has the strongest qualifying field for the U.S. Open, as many PGA Tour pros come over from Muirfield Village and the Memorial to play at Scioto and the Scarlet and Grey course at Ohio State. And the Tour pros dominated qualifying on Monday yet again, with 16 players moving on to Olympic in less than two weeks. Charlie Wi ran away from the field, firing 65-67 to come in at 9-under par, three shots better than the next closest qualifier. Blake Adams, who's been playing well all month and made plenty of noise at The Players, posted a 6-under on Monday and is on his way to the Bay area. Kevin Streelman, D.A. Points, Steve Marino, and Davis Love III are some of the other big names to qualify. A complete list of Columbus qualifiers from "Golf's longest day" below:

The eyes of the golfing world are on Columbus this weekend with the Memorial Tournament being played in Dublin, Ohio, but that focus will remain on Monday when two courses in the Columbus area host a U.S. Open sectional qualifying tournament.
With the PGA Tour in town filling up the qualifying tournament, the USGA added an alternate qualifying tournament in Springfield, Ohio. The sectional qualifying tournaments offer golfers from all over the world a chance to make the field of the 2012 U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Players must endure 36-holes in one day with only a few spots available at each sectional qualifying tournament.
The Columbus area qualifying tournament will be held on two courses and is one of two "tour" sites (along with Memphis, TN) for PGA Tour players. Scioto Country Club and The Ohio State University Scarlet Course will be used for the large field of players. Here is a complete list of tee times for the Columbus sectional qualifying tournament.
The Springfield qualifying tournament will be held at the Springfield Country Club. Here are the tee times for the Springfield sectional qualifying tournament.
