Kyrie Irving Injury: Cleveland Cavaliers Guard Undergoes Successful Surgery

Stay connected for news and updates

On Wednesday, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving underwent successful surgery at the Cleveland Clinic on his fractured right hand, according to the Cavaliers official website. Irving sustained the self-inflicted injury during a Summer League practice, when he made contact with a padded wall when he either slapped or hit it.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas Graham and Cavaliers Head Team Physician Dr. Richard Parker. Irving is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, which will begin in September, but otherwise the Cavaliers did not release a time-table for his recovery (early reports predicted that he would miss 6-8 weeks).

Irving will be coming off an impressive first season in the NBA averaging 18.5 points, 5.4 assists and 30.5 minutes per game, which saw him named as the league's Rookie of the Year.
