Jason Dufner had a strong start but rough finish on Day 1 at the British Open.
Dufner was 2-under through nine holes -- for what it's worth, that was the same score through No. 9 as Adam Scott, who finished Round 1 with the lead at 6-under -- but faded down the stretch.
While Scott birdied five holes on the back nine, Dufner, No. 2 among 2012 PGA money leaders, recorded a pair of double-bogeys -- first on the par-4 13th and then on the par-4 15th. He followed that up with two birdies on the final three holes, but that was only good enough to scratch back to even.
Tiger Woods is currently in a six-way tie for fourth place at 3-under. Ernie Els and Bubba Watson are also at 3-uder.
Zach Johnson and Paul Lawrie are tied for second place at 5-under.
