Cleveland Indians Receive Carlos Rojas From Baltimore Orioles In Exchange For J.C. Romero

Carlos Rojas is the previously unnamed minor league infielder that the Cleveland Indians received from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for lefthanded relief pitcher J.C. Romero, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com, although the official announcement likely won’t come until tomorrow.

Rojas, 28, has spent ten seasons in the Orioles and Cubs organizations, posting a career .224/.293/.260 batting line. He has split time between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk this season, and owns an OPS of just .533. Rojas looks to be a classic all-glove, no-bat middle infielder.

This doesn’t appear to be much of a return for the Indians, but it is more than they likely would have received for Romero unless they called him up before Wednesday. The Indians possibly could have used Romero before dealing him, as over the past month their pitching staff has a 5.74 ERA. Pitching coach Scott Radinsky has been relieved of his duties recently, and veteran Derek Lowe was given his walking papers as well.
