Carlos Hyde Emerging As Primary Running Back To Start Ohio State's Season

Urban Meyer appears to have found his starting tailback in Carlos Hyde, even if Meyer doesn't sound too confident in the junior.

With Jordan Hall still recovering from a foot injury, the powerful Hyde likely will be in the starting role to open the season against Miami (Ohio). From the AP (via the Washington Post):

"I think Carlos Hyde is (the) guy," Meyer said of the 235-pound junior. "He had a Wednesday practice in the spring where he was a legitimate tailback. Unfortunately he didn't have a Monday, Friday, Saturday to follow up the Wednesday practice. (But) he's really solid."

Hyde rushed 106 times for 566 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore last year, but his production tailed off when Dan Herron returned from suspension. His 5.3 yards per carry was tops on the team, and his six touchdowns led the running backs.
