As the Browns prepare their 53-man roster, questions still loom at the fullback position.

It seems that last year's fourth-round pick, Owen Marecic, has secured the starting job. According to Dawgs by Nature's Chris Pokorny, Marecic has seen all of the reps with the first-team offense.

Brad Smelley, a rookie from Alabama who was drafted in the seventh round, has seen reps with the second and third teams. Earlier in the preseason, fans speculated that Smelley would unseat Marecic at fullback, though that seems unlikely now.

Still, the Browns might not cut Smelley, because of his versatility. According to head coach Pat Shurmur, the team could possibly keep both Marecic and Smelley, "because Smelley could be considered a tight end as well as a fullback."

Smelley's status on the final roster is up in the air, and it might depend on the injury status of certain defensive players.
