FedEx Cup Standings 2012: Rory McIlroy Holds Commanding Lead After BMW Championships

Rory McIlroy has now won two of the three FedEx Cup Playoffs events this season and has a sizable amount of momentum around him heading into the 30-man field for the Tour Championship. He's atop the FedEx Cup standings with 4,799 points. He's more than a full 1,000 points ahead of second-place Nick Watney, who has an official score of 3,468.

McIlroy wrapped up his win at the 2012 BMW Championship on Sunday, earning a $1.44 million purse for his efforts. His winning score was 20-under, two shots ahead of Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson. This came right off of a victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Tiger Woods is projected in the No. 2 spot but is officially in third with 3,417 points. He finished three shots back of McIlroy at the BMW Championship. McIlroy took the lead in the final day by the time they hit the turn, having entered the final round just one stroke down of Mickelson and Vijay Singh.

Mickelson is a big mover on the FedEx Cup standings, jumping up five spots to occupy the projected spot of No. 4, though he's officially in ninth at this time. Lee Westwood moved up 15 spots to a projected eighth, with an official of No. 23 for his second-place finish at the BMW Championships.

Cleveland native Jason Dufner is doing pretty well, with 2,373 official points and a No. 7 spot in the rankings (projected in tenth). Full standings can be found here.
