Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The first round of the MAC tournament is in the books. The first round featured one big upset and two favorites barely escaping with victories.

Six Mid-American Conference teams were in action on Monday in the men's basketball conference tournament, and the round featured two games that came down to the wire and one upset.

The No.11 Miami (Ohio) Redhawks pulled off a big upset in their first round matchup, defeating the No. 6 Bowling Green Falcons 63-52. The Redhawks only won three conference games all season, but lead Bowling Green for most of the game en route to a comfortable victory.

The No. 7 Eastern Michigan Eagles squeaked out a victory in their first round game, defeating the Northern Illinois Huskies 45-44. Jalen Ross sank the game-winning three-pointer for the Eagles with 32 seconds left in the game, while Glenn Bryant blocked an attempt at a game-winning basket with two seconds let on the clock. DaShonte Riley led Eastern Michigan with 13 points, while Bryant added 10.

Eastern Michigan will face Miami in the second round of the tournament. The game will tip-off at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 13, with coverage on Sports Time Ohio.

The No. 8 Buffalo Bulls needed overtime against the No. 9 Central Michigan Chippewas, but escaped with a 74-72 victory. Forward Javon McCrea had a big performance for Buffalo, scoring 21 points, grabbing eight rebounds and blocking four shots. Will Regan also added 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Bulls will face the No. 5 Ball State Cardinals in the next round. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with Sports TIme Ohio televising the game.
