Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown returned to the Cleveland area on Friday to attend Earnie Green's induction into the Cleveland Browns Legends and will meet with new team owner, Jimmy Haslam, for the first time on Saturday (Haslam purchased the team on Aug. 2).

Brown has been estranged from the organization since being relieved of his duties as a team advisor two years ago. Originally selected by Cleveland with the No. 6 overall selection in the 1956 NFL Draft, Brown spent his entire career with the organization and set records in basically every notable offensive category.

He is excited at the prospects of meeting with Haslam. Via Cleveland.com:

"What an opportunity to be able to sit down with him and ... for him to express himself and I can express myself and that's all one can ask at this time. It's a beautiful thing.

"I am forever a Cleveland Brown."

Brown also expressed that he would be interested in returning to the organization in some capacity.

On Friday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians officially announced that the club has released right-handed starting pitcher Derek Lowe. The move comes a little over a week after the 39-year old pitcher was designated for assignment.

During his time in Cleveland, Lowe assembled a record of 8-10 with a 5.52 ERA in 119 innings pitched.

After jumping out to a 6-1 start to his year, the aging pitcher began to struggle, especially in the month of July where he amassed a record of 1-4.

Lowe has recorded one win in his last ten starts and has a combined record of 1-7 over that span (in addition to receiving a loss in his last four consecutive starts with the Indians).

On Friday, the second round of the 2012 PGA Championship got underway in South Carolina and Vijay Singh made a serious move up the leaderboard.

With Carl Pettersson currently leading the field with a 6-under par in Round 1 and three players (Pat Perez, Rory McIlroy and Gary Woodland) tied for second at 5-under, Singh has jumped up into a tie for the fifth position with an overall score of 4-under par, thanks to his 3-under par on Day 2. Singh shot a 3-under par on the front nine and bogied two holes in addition to recording two eagles on the back nine.

Cleveland native Jason Dufner currently sits at 2-over par through Round 1 and began his second round with a par on the first hole.

On Friday night, the Cleveland Indians (52-60) will host the second game of a four-game weekend set against the Boston Red Sox (55-58).

After dropping 11-straight games dating back to July 27, the Indians have appeared to be turning the team's fortune in the right direction after winning their two most recent games and will look to tie together three-straight wins with consecutive victories against Boston.

The Red Sox on the other hand, have been struggling for much of the season. The team has dropped six of their last eight and will look to snap a three-game losing streak with a win on Friday night.

The projected starters are Chris Seddon for the Indians (0-0, 7.71 ERA over 4.2 innings pitched in one start/two games) and Clay Bucholz for the Red Sox (9-3, 4.48 ERA).

On Wednesday, ESPN Cleveland reported that Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden could be facing a four-game suspension for testing positive for the banned substance adderall.

In a follow-up report on Friday, the outlet reported that Haden potentially could avoid missing any games as long as he received permission from the league's independent administrator on anabolic steroids and related substances to use the drug, which is commonly prescribed to help fight Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

According to league policy, as long as Haden presented his case to the independent administrator prior to his positive test, he will not be forced to serve the four-game suspension.

At this time, Haden has declined comment to state whether he needed the drug for a medical condition. He did, however, address the media after practice on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday night, ESPN insider Chris Mortensen tweeted that Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson has been tentatively penciled in to undergo an arthroscopic surgery when he meets with famed sports surgeon, Dr. James Andrews on Thursday.

The procedure is considered minor and will be used to clean up loose particles of cartilage around the knee. This surgery has nothing to do with the meniscus repair Richardson had back in Feb. (also performed by Andrews) and is considered a proactive attempt to stop a future injury.

The Cleveland Indians have released right-handed pitching prospect Jason Knapp.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians announced that the club has released right-handed pitching prospect Jason Knapp, one of the pieces acquired in the 2009 trade of Cliff Lee to the Philadelphia Phillies.

This leaves right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco (who is currently on the disabled list while recovering from Tommy John surgery), minor league utility infielder Jason Donald and backup catcher Lou Marson as the remaining pieces in the organization from the trade (with only Marson currently acting as a member of the Indians).

On Tuesday, Ivan Ukhov of Russia earned the gold medal in the Men's High Jump by being the only competitor capable of clearing the bar at a height of 2.38 meters.

Behind Ukhov was Toledo, Ohio native Erik Kynard representing the United States. Kynard led the event for much of the day prior to being unable to clear the 2.33 meter mark. However, the Ohio native's score was good enough to earn the silver medal and add to Team USA's growing medal count in Track & Field.

In addition, three competitors earned bronze medals for clearing the bar at a height of 2.29 meters, which included Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar, Derek Drouin of Canada and Robert Grabarz of Great Britain.
