Mike Holmgren is reportedly interested in coaching the Dallas Cowboys, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he plans to stick with current head coach Jason Garrett.

The Dallas Cowboys haven't made any sort of moves with current head coach Jason Garrett quite yet, but the rumor mill is certainly churning just in case the top job in Dallas opens up at some point in the near future. Plenty of candidates would come out of the woodwork if that does end up being the case; reportedly, one of those candidates would be Mike Holmgren.

Holmgren, currently working in the front office for the Cleveland Browns, is reportedly interested in returning to coaching if it's with the Cowboys, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.

Some sources who know Holmgren well believe Dallas is the one potential opening that would truly interest him, given the competitiveness of the roster, the skill players present and his long relationship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. [...] If the perfect scenario does not arise, sources close to Holmgren expect him to retire.

That's certainly an interesting report -- made all the more interesting due to the fact that the Browns and Cowboys are slated to play next weekend -- but Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones said on the radio that he plans to stick with Garrett at the helm.

"Of course, Mike Holmgren is a heck of a coach," Jones said before the Cowboys' 38-23 victory over the Eagles. "But the facts are that Jason Garrett gives us an outstanding chance to be what we want to be. So, there you have it. I wouldn't comment one way or the other there with Mike."

This story likely would have been given much more play this week had the Cowboys lost to the Eagles, but it's still worth keeping an eye on for the rest of the season.

Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez has had plenty of opinions this season as his team has remained near the bottom of the MLB standings, but the outspoken reliever has had to keep quiet as of late. The Indians' season is almost over, however, meaning his silence is likely to come to an end soon, as well.

Perez has kept his comments to himself ever since meeting with Cleveland general manager Chris Antonetti, but the reliever intimated on Tuesday night that the silence could soon be over.

Just a bit after getting his career-high 37th save on Tuesday night -- in his first save attempt since Sept. 13 -- Perez spoke to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Perez: "No comment. I have opinions, but I'm not going to say them right now."

As Perez walked away from reporters, he said, "It will be a fun last couple of days of the season when I'm allowed to talk again."

There's really not telling what Perez meant by that final comment, but one has to expect fireworks considering the amount of things Perez was willing to say mid-season.

The 2012 FedEx Cup was decided on Sunday afternoon, as Brandt Snedeker was able to clinch top honors and a hefty $10 million award for being the best golfer on the PGA Tour this year. Cleveland's own Jason Dufner never seemed in contention for the top spot, but he finished pretty high in the standings.

Dufner unfortunately dropped out of the top 10 this past weekend, but the Ohio native still finished in a very respectable 14th place. Dufner racked up 853 total points over the course of 22 events, placing in the top 10 eight times and winning two tournaments this season.

Dufner finished 3,247 points behind Snedeker, but he showed this year that he could be well on his way to becoming a household name.

The Cleveland Browns released their final injury report of the week on Friday afternoon and, though there were a few changes to the practice report, it seems as though Sunday's inactive players will be as everyone expected throughout the week.

The Buffalo Bills won't have to worry about linebacker James-Michael Johnson and tight end Alex Smith as both were ruled out for this weekend's game. The fact that Johnson is listed as out is most interesting because Johnson actually returned to practice, albeit on a limited basis according to the injury report, for Friday.

Aside from those two players, wide receiver Joshua Cribbs, defensive Juqua Parker and defensive back Ray Ventrone have all been listed as questionable after being limited in Friday's practice. Oniel Cousins, Scott Fujita, Greg Little, Trent Richardson and Billy Winn were listed as probable after all completing Friday's entire practice.

The Cleveland Browns have a bit of a problem in their defensive secondary as Joe Haden is still serving part of his four-game suspension and former starting cornerback Sheldon Brown has been demoted to nickel cornerback.

The Brown and Haden situations have opened up an opportunity for Buster Skrine, though, and the young defensive back is ready to take advantage of it. Defensive coordinator Dick Jauron doesn't sound quite as sure that he's ready for this, but it seems as though he likes his potential.

"Buster is a work in progress," defensive coordinator Dick Jauron said Thursday. "He hasn't played a lot of football. I really like him. He's a very competitive, very tough guy. He learned a good deal in that game that will help him in the long run. It was painful for him and us to some degree. He also made some plays in that game but gave up some."

Skrine will be asked to match up with Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson this weekend -- a difficult task as he attempts to get acclimated with his new starting role.

The Cleveland Browns didn't get off to a great start in the first game of the Brandon Weeden era, but the rookie quarterback says things should improve this week as he continues to work on the chemistry between himself and his receivers.

Weeden talked to the News-Herald this week about quite a few things, but his chemistry with Greg Little was one of the more interesting topics of the conversation:

Greg and I talk through a lot of stuff," Weeden said in the locker room after practice Wednesday. "It's hard physically for him to run routes over and over and over. You've got to talk about doing it. We're getting there. I can't say we're 100 percent as far as comfort level on everything we do, but I think we're getting better. I think you look at the first week against Detroit (in preseason), we had a mishap and we got better moving forward the next couple weeks. It's just spending extra time with each other and talking through things. We're not where we need to be yet. Fortunately, we have a minimum of 15, 16 games left. We have a lot of football left to fix those mistakes.

Little, expected to be one of Weeden's top options this season, was unable to catch any of the four balls his quarterback threw toward him in the opening week. It sounds like that might change this weekend against the Bengals, however, as the chemistry issues continue to get ironed out.

Art Modell's passing has reopened some old wounds -- most recently, the Cleveland Browns were the only NFL team not to honor their former owner on opening weekend -- but there appears to still be some things coming out of the woodwork that fans in Ohio might not be happy about.

The latest news, courtesy of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, is that Modell was actually offered the possibility of the city building a new stadium -- a story that goes directly against Modell's reasoning for originally removing the Browns from the city:

George Forbes, who was Cleveland's council president during the late 1980s and a key player in negotiations with team owners during planning for Gateway, said he and others asked Modell to be a part of the project.

Forbes said leaders proposed building a third Gateway sports facility for the Browns, just south of the Inner Belt a couple of blocks from what is now Progressive Field. Forbes' memory for detail is hazy. But he said then-Cuyahoga County Commissioner Tim Hagan, Jacobs and lawyers familiar with the financing options were present with Modell at a meeting when the offer was made.

It's unfortunate that this news didn't come to light prior to Modell's passing as this is obviously just one side of the story, but Cleveland fans will likely be a bit more displeased if the exact reasoning they were given for Modell moving the team wasn't a legitimate reason at all.

Trent Richardson's injury has hurt his fantasy football value, but it has in turn helped the case for Cleveland Browns backup running back Montario Hardesty.

The Trent Richardson injury is obviously cause for concern when it comes to fans of the Cleveland Browns, but there's another sub-sector keeping a close eye on the rookie running back. Fantasy football owners are watching the situation in Cleveland as they attempt to keep their rankings updated for the 2012 season.

Richardson's injury has obviously hurt his standing in that respect, too, as our friends over at Fake Teams -- SB Nation's fantasy sports blog -- have decided he's not worth drafting in the first three rounds of most leagues. With Richardson's value falling, though, Montario Hardesty has returned to fantasy relevance.

Welp. The opener is still one month away and it's possible he won't miss any time. That said, there's still no way you can invest a top-40 pick on a rookie that doesn't get any preseason action. Montario Hardesty is worth drafting in almost every league now, too.

Ideally Richardson hits the ground running when the regular seasons begins. If he doesn't, though, there's obviously value in Hardesty until the rookie is ready to go.
