2011 East-West Shrine Game: East Takes Down West 25-8

Stay connected for news and updates

In what many consider to be the beginning of the 2011 NFL Draft season, the East defeated the West  25-8 in the annual East-West Shrine game.

Syracuse running back Delone Carter scored a 16-yard touchdown to go along with a 4-yard TD run for Penn State's Evan Royster.  Behind the two touchdowns, a safety and a 25-yard field goal, the East led the game 19-8 at halftime.  The West's lone score came on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Idaho QB Nathan Enderle to Portland State TE Julius Thomas.

The final touchdown of the game came from the defense, when North Carolina DT Marvin Austin scooped up a Jerrod Johnson fumble and rumbled 3-yards for the touchdown.  Austin, of course, was one of the Tar Heels suspended for the 2010 season after he was found to have illegal contact with an agent.

Starting Monday, the bigger of the post-season evaluation bowls gets underway when Senior Bowl practice in Mobile, AL begins.
