Week 17 NFL Power Rankings: Fox Sports Drops Browns One Spot

The Cleveland Browns kept things closer against the Baltimore Ravens than many expected, but were handed a loss regardless. Many are wondering if this is the end of the Colt McCoy era, even if he happens to be healthy enough to return from a concussion. McCoy could get another chance to start, though, considering the fact that Seneca Wallace hasn't been able to get Cleveland over the hump over the last couple weeks. Sure, he's provided a spark offensively, but the team is still losing. The Browns are generally holding in the weekly power rankings, though.

Fox Sports drops the Browns one spot in their Week 17 NFL power rankings:

28. The Browns don't have a quality quarterback, they have no-impact receivers and they most likely will lose the physical running of Peyton Hillis in the offseason (not that it was a factor at all this season). This team is still multiple years away from being a contender in the AFC.

While this is pretty harsh, there's bits of truth. Cleveland boasts a strong defense and probably isn't as far as away as Brian Billick suggests, but their quarterback position is among the worst in the league, and it's not going to help their case in power rankings.

Week 17 NFL Power Rankings: ESPN Keeps Browns At No. 28

It's been a rough season for the Cleveland Browns. Though Seneca Wallace is now the quarterback with Colt McCoy out with a concussion, the team hasn't been able to get back to winning ways. Wallace has played well and given the offense a spark, but after losing to the Arizona Cardinals in overtime, they were soundly beaten by the division rival Baltimore Ravens. There's a lot of questions going forward, the least of which isn't whether or not McCoy will be the starter heading into Week 17, providing he's healthy.

ESPN keeps the Browns in place in their Week 17 NFL power rankings:

28. Mike Holmgren says things have changed in Cleveland. But the Browns are 9-22 under his leadership. (Walker)

That's definitely true: the Browns haven't looked all that much better under Holmgren. They show a spark here or there, but the team is unable to keep things together and win games with anything approaching consistency. As such, they'll be picking near the top of the 2012 NFL Draft.
