Super Bowl Recipe Ideas - Chips And Salsa

So you're hosting a party for the Super Bowl at your place? There's plenty of relatively simple recipes out there that will be crowd pleasers for your party and are relatively easy to put together.

Salsa is always a crowd favorite for the big game. It's relatively easy to make, it's really easy to make a whole lot of it and it's easy as well to make customized salsas depending on your tastes and the tastes of your guests. It can also be a healthy alternative to other favorites like pizza and buffalo wings.

The recipe below is for one batch of a fresh salsa, which will fill about a 1/2 quart cup. It's easy to buy the ingredients in bulk from your local market and throw together big amounts of it if you've got a good food processor.

* Four pitted Roma tomatoes
* One clove of garlic (or more if you really like garlic)
* 1/4 of a yellow bell pepper and 1/4 of an orange bell pepper
* 1/4 of a large red onion
* One Jalapeno
* Lemon/Lime juice to taste
* Cilantro to taste
* Salt to taste

Stick all of it into a food processor -- I recommend using a manual food processor so it doesn't all turn to mush, or else you can just chop everything by hand though that will take a little while -- and run it until it's got a pico de gallo consistency.

For a more 'hot' salsa you can add in a Habanero and a couple Serrano peppers in addition to the jalapeno. For a good Queso mix you simply need to melt a chunk of Velveeta or a similar cheese and add the salsa to it, though I would recommend losing the lemon/lime juice and bell peppers, perhaps using fewer tomatoes as well.

Making home made salsa rather than buying a giant tub of it at the store has the added bonus of being healthy for you and tasting far fresher. Buy several bags of chips and set them out next to it and you're good. When you're done you can always tub it up and give it to a health-conscious friend as well rather than having the jar of it sit in your pantry until next year's party when you'll pull it out again.
