Joe Banner, Mike Holmgren not present at NFL owners meetings

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Team president Mike Holmgren and incoming executive Joe Banner are not expected to be at the NFL Owners Meetings this week, where Jimmy Haslam will take over ownership of the Cleveland Browns.

Browns president Mike Holmgren will not be in Chicago for the NFL Owners Meetings this week, where Jimmy Haslam is expected to formally take majority ownership of the franchise, according to the Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot. Former Eagles president Joe Banner, who will join the team with Haslam, is not expected to be at the meetings either.

It's unclear at this point how the executive duties will be divided between Holmgren and Banner. However, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora believes Banner will be taking over as president and CEO, and that Holmgren could reach a settlement with the team and leave. Holmgren is expected to remain with the team for at least the duration of the 2012 season, but the future is murky beyond that point.

Haslam, who made his fortune by founding the Pilot travel and convenience stores, was a minority shareholder in the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is in the process of divesting his stake in the Steelers, but could temporarily have ownership interests in two NFL teams at the same time. However, the NFL Finance Committee has approved an arrangement where he will no longer have access to information about the Steelers once he assumes ownership of the Browns.
