Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert disputed a report that he has been calling other NFL teams looking for a job since August, and told reporters on Thursday that he wants to see things through with the team under new ownership.

Joe Banner replaced Mike Holmgren as team president on Tuesday, and although Heckert worked under Banner for nine years with the Philadelphia Eagles, there were reports that the GM had been shopping his services around the league since the start of the preseason. Heckert had this to say to The Plain Dealer on that topic:

"We all want to be here to see this thing through. It's untapped just how good this team can be, and we're on our way. Joe is super-smart and I think he'll see that ... I want to be here and I want to finish this thing,'' he said. "I love our team. Pat [Shurmur] will say the same thing. This may or may not be the most talented team around, but it's probably the best team I've been around. We have a nice mixture of veterans and young guys. We have solid character guys that are also talented.''

Heckert also told reporters that he is "100 percent behind Brandon Weeden," which makes sense considering he drafted the quarterback in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. The Browns' GM has been responsible for drafting some of Cleveland's most promising players, including Weeden, Trent Richardson, Joe Haden, Jabaal Sheard, Phil Taylor and Josh Gordon.
