Josh Gordon making biggest rookie impact at wide receiver?

Jason Miller

Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver Josh Gordon is outplaying the other wide receivers of his draft class so far in 2012.

Though the Cleveland Browns haven't had much success on the football field so far in 2012, Cleveland's decisions in the '12 NFL Draft seem to be paying off.

Instead of drafting Justin Blackmon, the Browns opted to draft Trent Richardson, who has been one of the most dynamic running backs in the NFL this season. Cleveland then drafted Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon in the second round of the supplemental NFL Draft -- and like Richardson, Gordon has paid dividends so far in 2012.

Gordon has been targeted 36 times this season, but has just 14 receptions for 333 yards and four touchdowns. Despite the inconsistent numbers, Gordon has outplayed Blackmon this season.

Per Jamison Hensley:

Gordon is leading all NFL rookies in receiving touchdowns (4), receiving yards (333), receptions of 20 yards or longer (5) and ranks fourth in scoring (24) and is tied for fourth in receptions (14).

Not too shabby for a supplemental draft pick. Of course, Gordon has the advantage of playing with a more developed rookie quarterback in Brandon Weeden, as opposed to Blackmon, who is still trying to develop chemistry with Blaine Gabbert in Jacksonville.
