Browns Free Agency: Cleveland Re-Signs Tight End Alex Smith

As one receiver after another signs or visits with teams not headquartered in Berea, the Cleveland Browns finally announced that they had signed someone who will be paid to catch the football. It's not a big splash, however, as Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports the Browns have re-signed tight end Alex Smith to a one-year deal.

Via @ScottPetrak:

Colt McCoy has consistently targeted his tight ends in his two years in the league, and Smith will continue to be a part of that in what is hopefully a backup and secondary role. The big tight end caught 14 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown last season. It's not a big signing, but it qualifies for news in an otherwise quiet start to the free agency season for the Browns.
