James-Michael Johnson Injury Update: Browns Linbacker Injures Oblique, X-Rays Negative

The Cleveland Browns dropped their preseason finale against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night by a score of 28-20, but the bigger concern is that rookie strong side linebacker James-Michael Johnson injured his left oblique during the second quarter and left the game. X-rays on Johnson came back negative, and after the game Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said he's not sure the team's fourth-round pick is hurt, but the depth at linebacker for Cleveland starting to become a concern with Scott Fujita suspended for the first three games and Chris Gocong out for the year (Achilles' tendon tear).

The Browns open their regular season schedule at home against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 9, so the defense will certainly be tested early in 2012.

Bears Vs. Browns Final Score: Special Teams, Defensive Touchdown Propel Chicago To Win

With both teams resting starting quarterbacks in the preseason finale, the Chicago Bears defense and special teams gave the team two touchdowns in a 28-20 win Thursday.

The Browns cut Chicago's lead to 14-10 in the third quarter, but in less than two minutes, Chicago's Greg McCoy intercepted a Thaddeus Lewis pass and returned it 15-yards for a touchdown. Then, one possession later, Brittan Golden returned a blocked punt 22 yards for a touchdown to push the lead to 28-10.

The Browns cut the lead to 28-17 with 10 minutes remaining on a 1-yard touchdown run by Adonis Thomas and Phil Dawson made it 28-20 with a 42-yard field goal with 4:58 remaining.

Cleveland trailed 14-7 at halftime, led by a Seneca Wallace touchdown pass to Rod Windsor.

The Browns gained 196 yards on the ground, led by Thomas with 11 carries for 81 yards and Brandon Jackson with 7 carries for 48 yards. Cleveland finished the preseason at 2-2.

Bears Vs. Browns Score Update: Cleveland Trails 14-7 At Halftime

The Cleveland Browns trail 14-7 to the Chicago Bears at halftime as the preseason winds down on Thursday night. With the starters sitting out in anticipation of the regular season, many reserves are being given their final shot to impress the coaching staff.

Bears back-up quarterback Josh McCown thrived in the first half against Cleveland's back-ups, completing 16-of-20 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns. The Browns haven't been nearly as successful through the air, with Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace combining for 43 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Cleveland has been successful in the running game, though, rushing 15 times for 92 yards in the first half. With Wallace taking over at the end of the half, the Browns were able to get the offense going, completing an eight-play, 80-yard drive with a touchdown. If that's any indication, the team could play better in the second half.
