NFL Cuts: Seneca Wallace Released By Browns, According To Report

The Cleveland Browns released back-up quarterback Seneca Wallace on Friday afternoon, according to Fox Sports Ohio's Pat McManamon. Wallace had been in a battle with Colt McCoy and Thaddeus Lewis for the reserve roles behind starter Brandon Weeden. Head coach Pat Shurmur stated on Thursday after the Browns loss to the Bears that he had already made up his mind on the back-up quarterback position, and the reports surfaced Friday afternoon that Wallace was gone.

The deadline for trimming the roster to the final 53-man squad is 9 p.m. ET on Friday. Wallace spent two unremarkable seasons with the Browns, playing in 14 games and throwing six touchdowns and four interceptions. McCoy may now be entrenched as the back-up. Shurmur said during training camp that Lewis was worth further examination and development, so keeping him around is not a complete shock.
