Brandon Weeden Named Browns Starting Quarterback By Pat Shurmur

Stay connected for news and updates

On Monday afternoon, Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur officially named Brandon Weeden as the team's starting quarterback for the 2012-13 season. Weeden will make his first start on Friday night when the Browns take on the Detroit Lions in their first preseason game.

Shurmur also stated that the back-up position will be decided through the course of training camp, with Colt McCoy acting as the No. 2 on Friday night.

The presumption was that it was only a matter of time before Shurmur announced Weeden as the starter. The Browns' head coach consistently but ambiguously stated that he would name a starter "sooner rather than later" but this still comes very early in the preseason process.
