Browns Roster Will Carry 15 Rookies To Start Season

Stay connected for news and updates

After weeks of trimming down the roster, the Cleveland Browns have the 53 players that they will open the 2012 regular season with. While making cuts, GM Tom Heckert hardly noticed until recently that 15 of those players will be making their respective NFL debuts this year, as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports.

As Florio writes, Heckert was simply trying to recognize the best players on the field, so he never noticed that he was retaining so many rookie players. Heckert told reporters on Sunday that he wasn't even aware of his final roster's inexperience until the team's spokesperson pointed out the significant number of rookies making the team.

Of the 15 rookies making the team, nine of them were drafted this year by the Browns while six were signed as undrafted free agents. Starting quarterback Brandon Weeden and starting running back Trent Richardson are among the rookies on the roster, so they'll be front and center in 2012.
