Josh Cribbs injury: Browns WR admits being knocked out

Cleveland Browns wide receiver and return specialist Josh Cribbs returned to practice on Wednesday, which marks the first time he has participated since he suffered a concussion during the team's 23-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 27. Cribbs took a big hit during the first quarter of that Week 4 game as the collision knocked his helmet off and caused his head snap back and hit the turf, but now he's upbeat and focused on making a quick return to the field.

He revealed to Ohio.com that he was knocked unconscious on the play that forced him to leave the game, but then he even tried to turn that scary moment into a positive vibe:

"I'm blessed with a kill switch. The doctor said that was a good thing that happened. Some guys don't get up after that and recover as fast as I have. But like I said, I got someone looking out for me. I can tell you that I'm working to get in the game plan heavily again like I was last week, so we'll see."

The reality of this traumatic brain injury are certainly recognized by Cribbs' wife and brother, who are both urging him to retire from the NFL for the sake of his long-term health.

The Browns take on the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ in Week 5.

Josh Cribbs Injury: Browns WR suffers concussion after violent hit against Ravens

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur confirmed that return man Joshua Cribbs left Thursday night's game with a concussion after taking a big hit on a punt return with 5:07 remaining in the first quarter. The Browns lost 23-16 to the Baltimore Ravens.

Cribbs crumpled between two Ravens players, lost his helmet, took an additional blow on the turf when his head whipped to the ground and he fumbled on the play.

Shurmur added that the team just has to wait and see where Cribbs is at in his recovery going forward, which is a vague response that makes perfect sense in light of the NFL's new concussion policy and the emphasis on player safety in any situation of suspected head trauma.

Cribbs has been a small part of the offense so far in 2012, catching just four passes for a total of 39 yards, but his bigger contributions have come by being a return threat on punts and kicks in the special-teams phase.

He has returned 11 punts for 144 yards and 12 kickoffs for 341 yards over the first four games of the season.

Here is a look at how Cribbs suffered his concussion on Thursday night:
