Cavaliers Wilt Before The 'Rose'; Losing Streak Reaches A Half Dozen

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Derrick Rose finished with 29 points and eight assists, and took over late in the game to lift the Chicago Bulls to an 88-83 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Rose made 11 of his 22 shots, including two big layups in the final minute that helped the Bulls to their third consecutive win. Joakim Noah provided 13 points and 14 rebounds.

"We're grateful for this win, it just goes onto our record," Rose said. "But we know when we're in this position like this, we have to find ways to just put teams down, step on them and make sure they don't have any confidence to come back."

Antawn Jamison scored 21 points to pace the Cavaliers, whose losing streak reached six games after they missed two potential game-tying shots in the closing moments.

Anderson Varejao added 17 points and 12 rebounds in the setback.

"We didn't get the outcome that we were looking for, but that's something to build on, because I thought our guys played hard for the first time in a while," said Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott.

Cleveland led for most of the fourth quarter, and held an 80-74 edge after Jamison made a free throw with 3:01 left to play. However, the Bulls evened the game with two Ronnie Brewer baskets and two Rose free throws.

With just more than a minute to go, Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson missed a three, and the Bulls went ahead on the ensuing possession. Rose drove down the middle of the lane, bounced off Mo Williams and sank a floater with 46.9 seconds left.

A pick-and-roll left Varejao wide open for a layup at the other end, knotting the score at 82, and the Cavaliers had an opportunity after Rose missed a jumper from the foul line. Varejao was fouled on the play and made 1-of-2 free throws with 26.2 ticks left.

Rose again went to work against Williams, driving past him down the left side. Rose then cut to the middle of the paint and threw in a layup with his right hand as he was fouled. He made the free throw for an 85-83 edge with 19.6 seconds remaining.

Cleveland still had plenty of time to pull even or take the lead, but after Williams missed a baseline jumper, Gibson's bank shot bounced off the rim, and the Bulls secured the win at the foul line.

Gibson finished with 14 points for the Cavaliers, while Williams ended with 13 points and 10 assists, but made only 5-of-18 shots.

Chicago opened the game on a 10-0 run before taking a 21-15 lead to the second quarter. Cleveland used an eight-point run late in the half to briefly move in front, but the Bulls countered with an eight-point burst of their own to take a 41-35 lead into the break.

The third quarter was close until Cleveland ended it with nine consecutive points. Williams' runner with time expiring gave the Cavaliers a 68-60 lead moving to the fourth.

But sharpshooter Kyle Korver kept Chicago in the game, opening the final quarter with a three-pointer, a technical free throw and a jumper. He had not scored to that point, but netted the Bulls' first 12 points of the quarter.

Luol Deng finished with 13 points for the Bulls, who shot 45 percent...Cleveland made 38 percent of its shots...The Cavaliers begin a four- game road trip Saturday in Houston. They will also make stops in Oklahoma City, Miami and Indiana.

Cavaliers Explode In Third Quarter To Lead 68-60

The Cavaliers outscored the Bulls 33-19 in the third quarter tonight at the Q, and have an 8-point lead — 68-60 — entering the final period as the Cavs try to end a five-game losing streak.

Antawn Jamison has scored 17 for Cleveland, while Anderson Varejao has 10 rebounds, and Mo Williams has nine assists.

The slightly revamped starting line-up might be working — at least for this one night. But you have to start somewhere.

Late Bulls' Push Restores Lead To Six At Halftime

After the Cavaliers had fought all the way back from a 10-0 deficit to start the game to actually take the lead at 35-33, the Chicago Bulls scored the final eight points of the first half and the Bulls lead 41-35 at the intermission.

The Cavs, who shot a sad 34% from the field in the half, were led by Daniel Gibson with 11 points, followed by Antawn Jamison with seven. Anderson Varejao has seven rebounds, and the leader in assists is Mo Williams, with four.

Derrick Rose leads all scorers with 13 for Chicago, while Luol Deng has 10 for the Bulls, who lead the Central Division by a game over the Indiana Pacers.

Bulls Grab 21-15 Lead After One

In a quarter of streaks, the Bulls had the better of it in the first period tonight, taking a 21-15 lead after the first twelve minutes.

After Chicago opened up with the game’s first ten points, the Cavs used an 11-2 run to draw within one point. But then the Bulls closed the quarter on a 9-4 run to provide the margin at the end of the stanza.

Antawn Jamison and Daniel Gibson share the lead in scoring for Cleveland with four points apiece.

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers will try to stop a five-game losing streak when they head home to host the Chicago Bulls at Quicken Loans Arena.

Cleveland suffered its fifth setback in a row and lost all three games on a recent road trip, including Tuesday's 117-97 loss to lowly Philadelphia.

J.J. Hickson scored 18 points, Daniel Gibson added 16 points off the bench and Mo Williams chipped in 15 points for the Cavs, who were outrebounded by a 44-29 margin and lost despite making 50 percent of their shots.

"I'm very disappointed with this whole road trip," said Cleveland head coach Byron Scott. "I don't know where the sense or urgency is right now, especially on the defensive end. We have to be much, much better."

The Cavaliers have lost two in a row at home and are 4-6 at the Q.

Meanwhile, Chicago has won two in a row since a two-game slide and recorded a 99-90 victory over Oklahoma City on Monday.

Newcomer Carlos Boozer posted a season-best 29 points to go along with 12 rebounds and Luol Deng registered 19 points and eight rebounds for the Bulls, who got just 11 points from All-Star guard Derrick Rose.

"I just try to do whatever I can," Boozer said. "My job is to be aggressive offensively and I will be. My job is to play good defense and rebound the ball, so that's what I'm focused on."

Kyle Korver had 13 points off the bench in a winning cause.

The Bulls are 4-6 away from the Windy City this season.
