Cavs might have been third team in William's blockbuster deal

Stay connected for news and updates

The New Jersey Nets could not pull off a trade to acquire Carmelo Anthony. But another Western Conference All-Star might come eastward to New Jersey: Utah point guard Deron Williams.

Rumor has it that it would be a three team deal, and that the Cavaliers were in talks to be that third team. They’d get the Nets center Troy Murphy and a first-round pick. However, either Golden State probably offered more, or the Cavs could have backed out at the last minute. Cleveland would have added a legitimate post up threat, though they’d be taking a hit wit his massive expiring contract. Details on who the Cavs would have dealt are unknown.
