Anderson Varejao injury: Cavs' center won't travel to Washington

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

Anderson Varejao will miss his fourth straight game, as he will not travel with the Cavaliers to Washington.

Cleveland Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao will miss at least one more game as he will not travel with the team to Washington for Wednesday's game against the Wizards.

Varejao has missed the last three games due to a bruised knee. He was originally expected to return for Wednesday's game, but will now not return to the court until at least Friday. He injured the knee on December 18 when he and another player hit knees during the Cavs' game against Toronto. He was able to return and finish the game, but has not played since.

While Varejao was a game-time decision for the first two games after suffering the injury, he did not travel with the Cavaliers for their game against Milwaukee and will again stay home for Cleveland's game against Washington. Cleveland will return home to face Atlanta on Friday.

With Varejao out of the lineup, rookie Tyler Zeller has taken over as the starting center. The Cavs have also gotten a boost from Tristan Thompson, who has posted a double-double in all three games Varejao missed.
