NBA Trade Deadline: Cavaliers Waive Jason Kapono, Sign Manny Harris

Acquired in the Ramon Sessions trade, the Cleveland Cavaliers officially waived Jason Kapono on Saturday, as expected. In conjunction with the move, the Cavs re-signed Manny Harris, which was also foreseeable.

Harris has been with the team on two prior occasions on 10-day contracts, but was let go before the deadline when his latest contract expired with the expectation that he would rejoin the team after they swung some deals.

He has appeared in only three games and 20-plus minutes for Cleveland this season. Before signing, Harris spent 17 games with the Canton Charge where he started 12 games. He averaged over 21 points on 47-percent shooting with almost eight rebounds and over three assists per game in 33 minutes per game.

NBA Trade Deadline: Cavaliers Plan To Waive Jason Kapono, According To Report

The Cleveland Cavaliers were able to make some deals prior to the trade deadline, most notably in a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. That deal sent Ramon Sessions out West and brought a couple of players to Cleveland. It appears that the Cavs no not necessarily need all of the players they received in the trade, however.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! News reports that Jason Kapono, who was sent to Cleveland as part of the trade, will be waived by the Cavaliers. The waiver move will make Kapono a free agent.

Kapono has averaged 2.0 points per game in the lockout-shortened 2011-12 NBA season. A UCLA alum, Kapono was selected in the second round of the 2003 NBA Draft by the Cavaliers.

Cavaliers Sign Donald Sloan For Remainder Of The Season

The Cleveland Cavaliers continued to shuffle point guards on Friday. The team signed point guard Donald Sloan for the remainder of the season on Friday, as reported by Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beancon Journal.

Sloan, 24, comes to the Cavs from Erie in the NBA Developmental League. Cleveland is the third team Sloan has played for this season. He made prior stops in Atlanta and New Orleans.

Daniel Gibson is expected to be the primary backup point guard until the team gets Sloan worked into the fold. Sloan could start to see playing time as soon as Sunday, reported Jason Lloyd.

The Cavs are also expected to re-sign Manny Harris who was with the team in two previous stints on 10-day contracts. He was let go earlier in the week, with the expectation that he would rejoin the team after the NBA trade deadline.

The Sloan move comes a day after the Cavs acquired Luke Walton and Jason Kapono.

Ramon Sessions Trade: Jason Kapono Also Included In Package From Lakers

As the NBA trade deadline rapidly approached, the Cleveland Cavaliers finally pulled off a trade for Ramon Sessions. The deal sent Sessions to the Los Angeles Lakers for their 2012 first-round pick, as well as an exchange of role players with Christian Eyenga going to LA and Luke Walton heading to Cleveland.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!, the Cavaliers will also be receiving another peripheral player, the sharpshooting Jason Kapono.

Via @WojYahooNBA:

The Plain Dealer has also confirmed that Kapono is a part of the deal. You will recall that he was originally drafted by the Cavaliers in 2003, taken in the second-round of the same year LeBron James landed in Cleveland. He lasted only one season with the Cavs, but has stayed in the league, bouncing around to six different teams. With the Lakers this year, he is shooting less than 30 percent from the three-point range and is averaging 10 minutes per game in 27 games played. Kapono's $1.2 million deal is expiring this season.

Ramon Sessions Trade: Cavaliers Trade Point Guard To Lakers For Draft Pick

There's been speculation left and right for weeks now about Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Ramon Sessions and whether or not he was going to remain in Cleveland come the trade deadline. With time ticking down to the deadline, it looks like a deal has finally been done and Sessions has played his last game as a Cavalier.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported on Thursday that the Cavs had made a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers for Sessions. The Lakers had long been the number one candidates to make a trade for the PG, and Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski confirms that the deal is for the Lakers' first round pick in 2012. The deal also included Christian Eyenga going to the Lakers and Luke Walton going to the Cavs, as reported by Windhorst. The Lakers will have the right to swap with the Heat's 2013 first-round pick, which the Cavaliers have the rights to from the LeBron James trade.

Sessions had been averaging 10.5 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game so far this season for Cleveland.

NBA Trade Rumors: Cavs Will Trade Ramon Sessions On Deadline Day, According To Report

The NBA trade deadline is at 3:00 pm on Thursday, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have been a hot trading partner for many teams looking to add a piece, in particular, a point guard. The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly in hot pursuit of Cavs point guard Ramon Sessions. The Cavaliers have been holding the line, requesting a first-round pick in return for sessions. But the Akron Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd reports that Sessions will be dealt today, perhaps even if the first rounder is not a part of the package.

Via @JasonLloydABJ:

More from Lloyd on a potential Sessions deal:

Sessions is a secondary deal right now for a team like the Lakers, who are more concerned with completing Beasley deal first. Once that's done, and all indications are it will get done, they'll see what assets are left for Sessions. Whether it's the Lakers or elsewhere, I've been told the #Cavs plan on moving Sessions by the deadline.

If Lloyd's sources are correct, it looks like the Sessions has played his last game for the Cavaliers this season.

NBA Trade Rumors: Cavs Still Discussing Ramon Sessions Trade With Los Angeles Lakers, Antawn Jamison Trade With New Orleans Hornets

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to discuss a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers for point guard Ramon Sessions. Reports on Tuesday indicated that the Cavs are interested in acquiring Jonny Flynn from Houston in a potential Sessions deal with the Lakers. Chris Broussard reported on Wednesday that the Cavs, however, are still holding the line and will not Trade sessions unless they get a first round pick in return.

The Los Angeles Lakers are also in discussions with Houston and Cleveland about a three-team deal that would send Ramon Sessions to the Lakers, Jonny Flynn to Cleveland and a Lakers first-round draft pick to Houston. Cleveland, however, is unwilling to do the deal unless it gets a first-round pick for Sessions. If the Cavaliers trade Sessions, they are likely to make a deal for Flynn.

Broussard also reports that the Cavaliers are still discussing a deal involving Antawn Jamison being sent to New Orleans for Emeka Okafor and his hefty contract. Broussard indicated that the Hornets would also add Minnesota's first-round pick in that deal. Jamison's deal is set to expire this season, which would make him a valuable asset for the Hornets.

NBA Trade Rumors: Cavaliers Discussions With Lakers For Ramon Sessions Involved Jonny Flynn Landing In Cleveland

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers continue discussions for point guard Ramon Sessions - talks that the Lakers have reportedly amped up as the deadline approaches. Marc Stein of ESPN dropped a rumor this afternoon that one deal involving Sessions and the Lakers had point guard Jonny Flynn landing in Cleveland, via a three team swap that including the Houston Rockets.

Via Marc Stein of ESPN:

The source said that the Lakers, in that proposal, would have received Sessions from Cleveland and future considerations from Houston, with the Rockets receiving one of the Lakers' two 2012 first-rounders and the Cavaliers landing Houston guard Jonny Flynn to back up Kyrie Irving at the point.

Thankfully for Cavalier fans, that deal is dead at the moment. Most reports indicate the Cavs asking price for Sessions is a first round pick, and they are fine moving on with him on the roster if teams are not willing to include that in a deal. After being drafted sixth overall, Flynn has been a bust thus far in the NBA, and is already on his second team in Houston. Despite this specific deal no longer on the table, Stein did reiterate that Sessions is at the top of the Lakers' trade wish list right now.

NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Aggressively Pursuing Deal For Cavs' Ramon Sessions

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to contact the Cavaliers about a potential deal for reserve point guard Ramon Sessions, according to a report. The Lakers have long been rumored to be likely trading partner with the Cavs when it comes to Sessions, and Sam Amico reports that they have stepped up their efforts as the deadline rapidly approaches this week.

Via Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio:

According to one source, the Lakers' interest in Sessions appeared to peak around All-Star weekend, but dwindled quickly when they learned the Cavs' wouldn't budge from receiving a first-round draft pick in return. But after exploring the market for a point guard, "the Lakers are finding a deal for Sessions may be the best fit," a source said.

The Lakers seem to be the busiest team at the trade deadline, as they furiously work to upgrade the point guard position and also engage in talks about All-Star forward Pau Gasol. The Cavs seem willing to hold on to Sessions, as visions of a playoff appearance now dance in their heads.

NBA Trade Rumors 2012: Ramon Sessions Draws Interest From Lakers, Timberwolves, Hawks

Cleveland Cavaliers back up point guard Ramon Sessions has drawn interest from many teams around the league due to his fantastic play this season behind rookie Kyrie Irving, according to the The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Via Tom Reed:

The Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks are two teams rumored to have interest in Sessions. The Minnesota Timberwolves, fighting for a Western Conference playoff spot, might also be calling the Cavaliers after the season-ending knee injury to point guard Ricky Rubio.

Though Sessions has said he would like to remain in Cleveland past Thursday's trade deadline, the speculation continues because of the brilliant play of Irving and because Sessions will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season if he declines a $4.55 million player option.

Sessions is averaging 10.6 points and 5.1 assists in just 24.5 minutes per game, while shooting a career-best 43.3 percent from beyond the arc.

NBA Trade Rumors: Antawn Jamison Doesn't Expect To Be Traded, Doesn't Want To Be

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been getting a lot of attention lately, but that's not due to the on-court product. No, the Cavaliers are in the news due to the upcoming NBA trade deadline and a couple players that may or may not be available. Ramon Sessions has been the most-talked about player in regards to a potential trade out of Cleveland, but Antawn Jamison has also been talked about significantly.

Some assume Jamison will be traded, while others think he'll finish out his contract in Cleveland. But what does Jamison himself think? According to The Plain Dealer, Jamison doesn't think he'll be traded. More than that, he doesn't want to be traded at all, and is enjoying his time in Cleveland, where he's been playing great as one of the few reasons Cleveland is actually competing on a game-by-game basis.

"Honestly, deep down inside, I don't want to go anywhere, and I don't feel like I'm going anywhere," Jamison said. "I enjoy playing with these guys. These guys are very receptive to what I tell them and what I do on the court."

Jamison has averaged 22 points and nine rebounds over the month of February, and is a leader on and off the court. At 35 years of age, he's having a great season, his best in Cleveland thus far. Jamison is set to be a free agent at the end of the season, and that's the big reason his name is coming up. He could have some value on the trade market that might be more beneficial to the Cavaliers for future seasons than his play this season.

Ramon Sessions Trade Rumors: Cavaliers Reportedly Seeking First Round Pick For Guard

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ramon Sessions has been the talk of a lot of trade talks lately, as the Cavaliers try to offload some players that they don't need in an attempt to improve their mediocre squad for the future and build around rookie Kyrie Irving. Sessions is expected to opt out of his contract as he looks for a deal with several years and likely more money involved, he's currently scheduled to make $4.6 million next season.

The Cavaliers are said to be looking for a first round pick in exchange for Sessions according to Bob Finnan of The News-Herald. The Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks are reportedly interested in gaining the guard's services. More teams may join the fray as the saga unfolds, but the Cavaliers are certainly going to continue looking for good draft picks to continue to build a strong, young team.

Ramon Sessions Trade Rumors: Lakers Interested In Cavs PG, But Reportedly Waiting For Dwight Howard Saga To End

The Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in getting better in the future, meaning they'll look to swap any spare parts that aren't in the plans for the long-term. It seems the first of the players ready to be auctioned off is going to be combo-guard Ramon Sessions.

Sessions has shown spurts of potential throughout his NBA career, but he isn't really needed with Kyrie Irving scheduled to be the point guard for the franchise's foreseeable future. It makes sense, then, that ESPN's Marc Stein reports the Los Angeles Lakers are moving closer to trading for him.

The Lakers are indeed on the long list of teams interested in Cavs point guard Ramon Sessions, but sources say that Cleveland would expect at least one first-round draft pick from L.A. in exchange. Although the Lakers have their own first-round pick and Dallas' first-rounder in 2012, it's believed that L.A. prefers to hold off on using either of those picks or its $8.9 million trade exception (created by the deal that sent Lamar Odom to the Mavs) until Dwight Howard's situation plays out in Orlando. Meaning that the Lakers don't want to burn one (or more) of their limited trade assets and then find out that Orlando is suddenly ready to deal Dwight before the March 15 trading deadline.

If the Cavs have to wait for the Dwight Howard saga to play out, in might be awhile until something happens with this situation.
