The Indians managed to throw seven goose-eggs at the San Diego Padres today. Unfortunately, the other two innings were a three-spot and a four-run outburst, the first against starter — and losing pitcher — Carlos Carrasco, and the second against David Huff, as the San Diego Padres defeated the Indians 7-2, dropping the Tribe to 5-9 in the Cactus League.
Carrasco gave up three in the second of his three innings worked, and after the Tribe had crept to within 3-2 in the top of the seventh, with Travis Buck driving in one run with a base-hit and Paul Phillips blasting a homer, the Padres put the game away in the bottom of the seventh.
San Diego pounded out fifteen hits, while holding Cleveland to seven — two from Phillips — as the Indians scored two runs or fewer for the third time in four days.
The Tribe hosts the Oakland A’s tomorrow afternoon at 4:05.
